It was yet more disappointment for Dolphins fans as we slipped to our seventh home defeat of the season. This time we didn’t recover from a hugely deflected free-kick in the second minute of the match. This keeps us down in 19th place on 29 points having picked up just 3 points from our last six matches.
We move on, and next up is the eagerly anticipated re-arranged fixture across the Stour at the Wyatt Homes Stadium on Tuesday evening, ko 7:30pm. Both teams are in desperate need of the points as we both strive to avoid being caught up in a relegation dog-fight. We have collected 16 points from our 14 matches away from home whilst Wimborne have collected 22 points from their 15 home fixtures.
Wimborne come into the match on the back of a very credible home draw against table topping Merthyr Town on Saturday. The away side took the lead with the last kick of the first half but Harry Morgan earned the Magpies a point with his 63rd minute strike.
They are currently in 18th place (P28 W8 D7 L13 31 points) and have lost five times at home this season attracting an average crowd of 657.
We took the bragging rights at The Black Gold on Bank Holiday Monday with the only goal of the game scored by Charlie Davis. The match reporter on the day was Connor Hannon who summed up the match by saying” Despite Wimborne’s domination in the second half, the full-time whistle went with Poole taking all three points in a closely fought encounter at the Black Gold Stadium”
Since joining the Magpies from Hamworthy United the popular manager Tim Sills has done a great deal to turn the club around and he has enjoyed much success. The ex-Poole High school teacher enjoyed a very successful playing career himself which started at Millwall and included spells at many other league and non-league clubs. He guided Wimborne to their first league title in 24 years last season.
The Magpies have appointed the ex-Carlisle keeper Jimmy Glass as their General Manager. He found fame when scoring the goal that kept his club in the football league in the 1998/99 season. He was on loan from Swindon Town at the time.
Both clubs announced details of the segregation that would have been in place for the game for the original New Year’s Day fixture, so it is probably best to assume that those restrictions will apply on Tuesday evening.
Enjoy the game
