Dorset Senior Cup First Round Tue 11 November BlackGold Stadium
Poole Town
Portland Utd
19:30

In very difficult circumstances our league match against Yate Town on Saturday was postponed.

We now turn our attention to the Dorset Senior Cup and our first-round tie with Portland United at the Black Gold on Tuesday evening ko 7.30pm.

It has been announced that a number of our very successful Under 23 squad will be in involved in this tie. They play in the U23 Hampshire Combination & Development Football League Premier Division and are currently the league leaders, (P9 W4 D2 L3 14 points) however it is fair to say we have played significantly more games than most of the other teams in the league. For instance, Winchester U23s are in second place (P4 W4 12 points) and have conceded just one goal in those four games.

There are certainly plenty of goals in our under 23’s games, we have scored 22 and conceded 22 so an average of 5 per game. We lost our last match on 5th November 5-2 to Dorchester. In the game prior to that on 29th October we beat Fareham Town 2-1.

Unfortunately, our next match against Winchester has already been postponed so we will next play on Thursday 20thNovember when we be away to Blackfield & Langley in the Hampshire Combination U23 Challenge Cup.

Portland United play in the Velocity Wessex Premier League and are currently in 9th place with 24 points after 13 matches. In their last match on Saturday, they were put out of the Isuzu FA Vase by Sturminster Newton United. The match finished 0-0 and Sturminster won the penalty shoot out 3-1. Prior to this they had won their last five league and cup games.

The Blues also score plenty of goals, 30 in 13 matches but they have conceded 18, perhaps the reason for sitting just outside of the play-off places by 2 points.

Amongst other local teams in action in the Dorset Senior Cup this week will be Weymouth v Bridport and Hamworthy v Wimborne Town. Dorchester received a bye into the next round.

Round 2 will be played week beginning 8th December, the semi-finals will be played week beginning 12th January and the final will be played on 10th March at a venue yet to be announced.

If the scores are level at 90 minutes the ties will go straight to penalty kicks.

With greatly reduced entry prices this match presents an ideal opportunity to come along to the Black Gold and see some of our very talented youngsters in action. They will greatly appreciate your support.

Enjoy the game,

Neil Wellington.
