The Dolphins have progressed through to the next round of the Emirates FA Cup following a 2-1 win over Didcot Town on Tuesday evening.
Joe Lea and Pat Suraci were held to a 1-1 draw with Didcot on Saturday resulting in a replay taking place under the lights at Tatnam.
The management duo made seven changes from Saturday’s game with the likes of Billy Lowes and Corey Jordan returning to the side.
The referee’s whistle got proceedings underway on the night with the home side looking for an opener in the early stages.
Josh McCormick went close on the 2nd minute as his whipped effort crashed off the top of the crossbar.
The Dolphins certainly looked more likely to take the lead, Antonio Diaz fired a shot goalwards but was unable to trouble Leigh Bedwell in the Didcot goal.
The deadlock was finally broken on the 15th minute as Diaz set it across the face of the goal and Kris Campbell converted to give Lea and Suraci’s side the lead.
The away side grew into the game as it went on and definitely didn’t shy away from the pressure of facing a team in the league above.
Ryan Campbell went close once again for Poole on the 40th minute but was denied by a fantastic stop by Bedwell.
On the brink of half time, Didcot found an equaliser after a whipped ball in found the head of JP Nyuysemo and he glanced it home as the sides went into the break on level terms.
The second half got underway in similar fashion, with both sides having plenty of the ball and creating numerous half-chances.
Didcot went close through Tyger Hall, but he was denied by the outstretched arm of Adam Parkes to keep the scores level.
On the hour mark, the Dolphins regained full control of the game and forced the visitors into a low back and became hard to break down and create any clear cut openings.
With the game stuck on level terms, it looked like extra time and potentially penalties could be on the cards.
On the 75th minute, Shaq Gwengwe was brought down inside the area and the referee pointed to the spot.
It was the Poole number nine to step up and he converted with a fine finish into the bottom corner to make it 2-1 to the Dorset based side.
With Poole in the commanding position and a deserved lead, they held on in the dying stages and goals from Campbell and Gwengwe secured the win under the lights at Tatnam.
Poole will travel to Lea and Suraci’s previous side in Gosport for the next round of the FA Cup which will take place on the 13th September.
