The Dolphins returned to winning ways after beating Basingstoke Town 1-0 on Saturday afternoon with Shaquille Gwengwe’s goal being the difference maker.
Joe Lea and Pat Suraci made two changes from the late 2-1 defeat to Farnham Town with Ik Hill and Corey Jordan returning to the starting eleven.
The match got underway on a rainy Tatnam surface with the Dolphins looking to strike early.
Antonio Diaz went close for Poole on the ten-minute mark but his effort was easily dealt with by the Basingstoke number one.
The deadlock was finally broken after 21 minutes as Corey Jordan made a galloping run down the right flank and found Shaquille Gwengwe in the centre who tapped it home to give Poole a deserved 1-0 lead.
As the half progressed, Basingstoke did grow into the match and created some chances of their own but none that troubled Adam Parkes too dangerously.
The half came to a close with the Dolphins in the commanding position at the break.
The second half continued in similar fashion with Lea and Suraci’s side the better of the two; however, Basingstoke were denied by a fantastic save onto the bar and the follow up was somehow placed wide from five yards out.
With 25 minutes to play, it was all Poole Town at this stage, they went close a number of times but we’re unable to find that decisive second goal.
Gwengwe’s shot was denied and the follow up fell to substitute Ayo who blazed over from close range.
With five additional minutes, Basingstoke started trying to grab a late equaliser but the Poole backline remained resolute and held on to a huge three points.
The Dolphins are back at home again on Tuesday evening as they host Tiverton Town under the lights at Tatnam.
