Tyrique Clarke’s last-minute winner ensured Poole Town got back to winning ways on Saturday in a 1-0 win against Basingstoke Town.

Joe Lea and Pat Suraci named an unchanged starting eleven from the 2-1 defeat to Chertsey Town on Tuesday.

The match got underway with both sides struggling to gain control of the game early on.

The biggest chance of the half fell to Poole’s Rafa Ramos after 15 minutes, but he was unable to convert from close range as he pulled his shot wide.

Basingstoke started to dominate the ball and went close to opening the scoring just before the break through Liam Ferdinand as his effort crashed off the crossbar.

The half came to a goalless close with neither side able to break the deadlock.

The second half got underway with higher intensity from both sides infront of a crowd of 771 at the BlackGold Stadium.

Poole thought they had opened the scoring on the 65th minute as Ramos’ shot drifted narrowly wide of the post.

Moments after the Ramos chance, the visitors went up the other end and went inches away from taking the lead themselves as Robbie Gallagher hit the woodwork.

As the match progressed and looked like it was nearing a goalless close, both sides began to send more players forward in an attempt to grab a late winner.

That moment eventually arrived on the 94th minute as Clarke’s effort from the edge of the area flew into the top right-hand corner sending the fans behind the goal into delirium.

The full-time whistle went, and Poole secured all three points due to the sheer brilliance of Tyrique Clarke’s left foot.

A fantastic defensive display from the Dolphins in what is their first win since November.

Next up for Poole is a trip to Havant & Waterlooville next Saturday.
