Poole Town’s FA Cup run came to an end, after the seagulls pushed aside the Dolphins in a 2-0 win in the FA Cup third qualifying round.

Poole had a tough test ahead of themselves up against a Weston-super-Mare side who find themselves second in the National League South.

A few tweaks were made to the Dolphins starting 11, with Kris Campbell and Selim Saied coming in for the injured IK Hill, and the rested, Harvey Slade.

The visitors took the lead through an early penalty from Luke Coulson in the fourth minute.

Despite Poole enjoying lots of possession, the were unable to create any clear cut chances in the first half.

It was Weston who struck again minutes before the break and a first Weston goal for Callum Wood made it 2-0 to the away side.

The second half got underway and Weston thought they had made it three but Britton was found in an offside position and their third was disallowed.

Poole were unable to find the back of the net for the second game running but had chances and dominated the majority of play in the second half.

Changes in the form of Harvey Slade and Antonio Diaz impacted the game, but it was not enough to draw one back on the day.

Shaquille Gwengwe did find the net with just two minutes to play, but he was deemed to be in an offside position, resulting in the goal not standing.

The full-time whistle was blown with Poole exiting the cup and Weston progressing, certainly a valiant effort from Lea and Suraci’s side but, ultimately the better team progressed through to the next round.

Poole now look ahead to another cup competition, as the Dolphins travel to Yate, in the FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round, next Saturday.
