Poole Town exit the Dorset Senior Cup after a 2-0 defeat against Portland United at Tatnam on Tuesday night.

The Dolphins listed a full under 23’s line up with young Scott Rowles being the only player with first team minutes in the starting eleven.

Poole, managed by under 23’s manager Juan Valverde, started the game as the better side and generated the first effort of the game being a free kick which crashed off the post from Scott Rowles.

The visitors went close but were denied by heroic defending from Theo Day to keep the scoreline goalless.

Despite the young Dolphins having more of the possession and generating a number of chances, it was Portland who took the lead after Patrick Jenkins rounded the keeper and placed it home.

Portland came out for the second half looking for blood and it didn’t take long for them to double their lead through Korey Andrews.

Poole continued to press in search of finding a way back into the game and went close through substitute Kris Campbell, but his effort was just wide.

The referee brought proceedings to an end with Portland progressing to the next round of the Dorset Senior Cup, but a spirited performance on the evening from the young Dolphins.
