Poole Town earnt a hard-fought three points on the road on Bank Holiday Monday in a 1-0 win over Plymouth Parkway.

Joe Lea and Pat Suraci made a number of changes following the 1-1 draw with Evesham United on Saturday with Kris Campbell and Charlie Davis returning to the starting eleven.

The match got underway to slow start at Bolitho Park with neither side able to muster up any chances in the early stages.

Poole went close through a long throw in, lofted into the area by Kris Campbell and headed narrowly wide by Antonio Diaz.

It was the hosts who looked more likely to open the scoring on the half hour mark after some lovely free-flowing football, but Corey Jordan remained resolute.

The half drew to a goalless close with limited chances for either side in the first 45.

Poole came out the blocks for the second half with higher intensity and began to create a number of chances in search of an opener.

Shaq Gwengwe went close to finding the back of the net, but his efforts were well kept out by AFC Bournemouth loanee Mack Allen who had a great game between the sticks.

After continuous pressure from the Dolphins, the deadlock was finally broken as Henry Spalding’s corner was headed home at the near post by Josh Staunton on the 85th minute.

Lea and Suraci’s side managed to hold on and secure the three points in a hard fought and scrappy 1-0 win down in Plymouth.

This result leaves the Dorset based side in seventh place after five matches played, one point off the current league leaders Sholing.

Next up for Poole is a break from the Southern League Premier South with some FA Cup action as they travel to Didcot Town next Saturday with a 3pm kick off.
