Steve Tully made a few adjustments to his squad from Tuesdays defeat against Havant and Waterlooville. Tyler Forbes, Jamie Whisken and Tom Hewlett coming in for Jam Smith, Oakley Hanger and Rafa Ramos.
Frome have found their start to life in the Southern League tough only scoring 5 goals before todays game and were sat in the relegation zone.
Poole had the chance to move level on points with Dorchester in 5th.
The game got underway and within 9 minutes Poole took the lead through Josh Staunton who capitalised on Kyle Phillips’ mistake from a corner. Staunton was first to react stabbing the ball in to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead within the opening 10 minutes.
Frome didn’t let their heads drop and looked dangerous on the counter. The Robins attacking persistence was rewarded as they struck an equaliser also from a corner. Matthew Wood guiding the ball past Plain to get the home side back level.
Half time and the scores were locked at 1-1. The second half got underway with both sides reluctant to make changes. A very end to end game with both sides coming close to taking the lead.
The Dolphins would re take the lead after a set piece from Hanger was headed on to the bar by a Frome defender and Toby Holmes pounced, heading the ball in from close range. 2-1 Poole.
Frome fought back well and they responded from another set piece. Matt Wood claiming his second of the game, heading the ball over Plain with one minute to play.
Poole were determined to find a winner, and late on, captain Jamie Whisken leaped highest and headed the ball into the back of the net to take all three points back to the south coast. Unreal scenes and support from the Poole Town fans.
A win which moves Poole up to 6th. The Dolphins are level on points with 5th Place Dorchester Town. The Dolphins travel to Tiverton next weekend.
