What an amazing night in Somerset on Wednesday for the Dolphins. After falling behind in the 28th minute Harvey Slade drew the sides level just before the break. Enter Shaq Gwengwe with an incredible 15-minute hat-trick and a convincing 4-1 victory is secured. What a way to bounce back from the defeat at Gloucester against a Taunton Town side who although struggling a little at the moment are never to be taken lightly.
We are on the road again in our next match which will be the FA Trophy First Round Proper tie at Plymouth Parkway on Saturday ko 3pm. Plymouth qualified for this round by beating Gosport Borough 3-2 in the 3Q round and we beat Yate Town in the same round.
There will be 32 ties played this weekend. Dunston v Hebburn Town get the round underway on Friday evening before 30 ties are played on Saturday with the remaining fixture, Bracknell Town v Banbury United taking place on Sunday.
Plymouth started the season well and then ran into a poor run of form. However, they have won three of their last four matches, most recently earning a valuable point at Hungerford in a 1-1 draw on Saturday. They sit in 16th place in the league table (P13 W3 D4 L6 13 points).
We won the league fixture at Bolitho Park on Bank Holiday Monday. The match looked like it was going to end in a very scrappy goalless draw until Henry Spalding set up Josh Staunton to give us an 85th minute winner. We don’t have a great record on this ground so the win was hard fought and well deserved. Perhaps the man-of-the-match was the on-loan AFC Bournemouth keeper Mack Allen who excelled between the sticks for the Yellows.
Plymouth manager Chris McPhee has had a few injury problems amongst his squad this season but was pleased to welcome back Carlo Garside last week. Garside came through the ranks at Plymouth Argyle becoming U18’s captain, before being released at 17 and joining Parkway briefly. He then joined Larkhall and Tiverton, before returning back home to the Yellows.
Pat and Joe have said previously that they take this competition seriously and will be doing everything to make sure that we go as far as possible. We are in a great place currently so this may well be the season for us to enjoy a significant cup run.
Enjoy the game
