The Dolphins were pushed aside in a 4-1 defeat on Tuesday evening against a dominant Sholing side.
Joe Lea and Pat Suraci made two changes from the 1-0 win over Hanwell Town on Saturday with Shaq Gwengwe returning and Harry Lee making his first start for the club.
The match got underway in East Southampton with both sides showing glimpses of promise in the early stages.
It was the hosts who struck first through experienced forward Daniel Mason who rifled the ball into the bottom corner to give Sholing the lead, a goal which marked his 300th for the Boatmen.
The home side ramped up the pressure in search of a second and found the back of the net once again, this time through Jake Hesketh, his curling effort was too much for Adam Parkes as Sholing made it 2-0 before the break.
A trio of substitutions were introduced at half time with Selim Saied, Billy Lowes and Antonio Diaz all being brought on.
Saied went close for Poole but was denied by fantastic defending from the resolute Sholing backline.
Despite the Dolphins growing in confidence, the home side always had the edge in this one, and the three points were set in stone when Sholing made it three on the 70th minute through Gianni Crichlow’s superb strike from the edge of the area.
Things went from bad to worse for Poole when substitute Beaux Booth made it 4-0 with ten minutes to go.
There was a consolation for the Dolphins as Tyrrell Sampson scored his first league goal for Poole in the dying moments with a fine finish to make it 4-1.
The full-time whistle went with Sholing earning a deserved three points and Poole walking away empty handed with lots of work to do ahead of Saturday’s encounter with Bracknell.
