Club History
Poole Town Football Club were founded in 1890 and currently play in the Southern League Premier South (7th tier of English Football).
In the beginning, Poole Town FC were founded on the 20th September 1890 with the merger of two local sides, Poole Rovers and Poole Hornets. Poole joined the Dorset league in 1896. The Dolphins turned professional in 1923 and joined the Western League for three years, and were able to restore some success to the club, winning the Dorset Senior Cup in 1926. In 1930 Poole became known as Poole Town after they reverted to amateur status. In 1933, they move to Poole Stadium. The stand was built at the ground in 1930 and then the actual stadium was built by volunteers who were fans of the football club.
In 1994 Poole were forced out of Poole Stadium, their home for over 60 years and began ground sharing with Hamworthy United, and narrowly avoided relegation from the Southern League, finishing 20th out of 22 in 1994/95. Then the side had their worst ever season as they went through 1995/96 without a win, gaining just 1 point from a 0-0 result against Bashley, to avoid the worst ever playing record. The final record that season was: Played 42, Won 0, Drawn 1, Lost 41, Goals for: 17, Goals against: 188. The club dropped out of the Southern League, and were made to leave their Hamworthy Home at the same time.
After many ground troubles, in October 2000, Poole began playing at Tatnam Ground, the school field of Oakdale South Road Middle School where they still play today.
Poole Town have called Tatnam Ground their home for the last 24 years after moving there in October 2000. When they moved to the ground, it was in a dire state and needed revamping. The club subsequently built a barrier around the surface, dugouts, a small club shop, tea hut, licensed bar and an £80,000 stand which was needed for them to be promoted into the Wessex League First Division.
Tatnam was once again upgraded in 2013 as the dugouts moved to the other side of the ground, a new clubhouse was built, and 100 more seats including 50 in the small stand. The total upgrade cost over £200,000 and was completed in just over two months. This allows the club to be promoted to the National League South which they achieved at the end of the 2015–16 season.
