Steve Tully’s team were on the road this weekend as Poole travelled to face fourth place Basingstoke at the Winklebury Sports Complex.

The Dolphins came into this contest off the back of a 3-1 home loss to Gosport Borough the week before.

Poole’s new signing, from Weymouth, Ezio Touray started on his debut along with a few other changes to the Poole starting XI.

Dario De Luca and Tom Hewlett were placed on the bench and Harry Thomas missed out through suspension.

The game kicked off and Poole started brightly, with Touray and Toby Holmes finding gaps in the Basingstoke defence.

The 14th minute approached and Poole took the lead through the debutant Touray, slotting home after an intelligent drilled ball from Whisken.

Poole didn’t stop there and ten minutes later found themselves two to the good. Oakley Hanger’s fantastic cross was expertly dispatched by Josh Staunton. Poole fans loving the game so far.

A half of very few chances and there was to be one more goal for the Dolphins when the ball landed at the feet of number nine Toby Holmes. Holmes smashed the ball on the half turn into the roof of the net, Poole in dreamland and cruising.

The Dolphins went comfortably into the break with a 3-0 lead. The second half kicked off with neither side making changes.

The Home side were piling on the pressure, but the Poole defence stood strong with Cam Plain making some excellent stops.

Basingstoke did eventually find a goal through Charlie Barlow on the 67th minute. Barlow stabbed the ball past Plain to give Basingstoke something to cheer about.

Rafa Ramos entered the field and had a flurry of chances which could have added to the score line. Hewlett, Whitbread, and De Luca also all made a substitute appearance and did their jobs superbly.

A solid defensive display in the last 20 minutes rewarded Poole with all three points in a 3-1 victory.

The fans, players and staff were excellent all game and it was a thoroughly deserved win for Steve Tully’s side.

Next up for Poole a home game against Hungerford Town next Saturday.
